Description
St Joseph's oil is a devotion that is still little known to the general public, but precious to many of the faithful. It has its roots in the spiritual history history of the shrine of Saint Joseph in Montreal, Canada, and in the life of Saint Brother André, a humble porter who became an instrument of countless graces.
St Joseph's oil is not a miraculous remedy in the magical sense. It does not replace medicine or the sacraments. It is a sacramental sign: it disposes the heart to receive God's grace, like holy water or a medal.
It is blessed by a priest, and used in a prayerful setting, with humility and faith. It can be applied to the forehead, the hands, a suffering part of the body, or used to bless an object, a door, a bed, invoking the intercession of Saint Joseph.
